At least 150 fishermen from Chimbote, Barranca, Huacho, Ilo and Piura have refused to embark as a protest measure to demand that the Ministry of Production (Produce) decree the closure of the second season of industrial fishing.

The seamen made a seedling at Malabrigo's dock since last Thursday and slept in this place at night as an act of rejection of the production issued by Produce on December 31.

The legal device orders the stoppage of extractive activities for an indefinite period, within the first 30 miles of the coast, from the coast of Trujillo (La Libertad) to that of Nazca (Ica).

“We demand that the minister provide a general ban. We are killing the anchovy by the pure. Imarpe (Institute of the Sea of Peru) has misrepresented the information saying that there is a biomass of 8 million, but when we have gone fishing we have not found that amount, we have only seen little large school and quite 10 cm wide anchovy, when the permissible size to fish it is 12 centimeters ”, declared the general secretary of the Fishermen's Union of Chimbote and Annexes, Macedonio Vásquez.

Vásquez commented that they have talked with the representatives of the Copeinca company and agreed to resume their work until they know the fishing exploration report that four vessels have developed in the last hours.
