Produce authorizes the start of the 1st anchovy fishing season in the southern part

The Ministry of Production (Produce) authorized the start of the first anchovy and white anchovy fishing season for the period August - December 2020 in the southern part of the country.
 
According to Ministerial Resolution No. 249-2020-PRODUCE, published this Tuesday in the Official Gazette El Peruano, the season will take place in the maritime area between 16º00′LS and the extreme south of Peru's maritime domain.
 
The fishing season will be effective from 00:00 on August 1, 2020 and will end once the total maximum allowable catch limit for the southern zone has been reached.
 
For the aforementioned period, Produce has set the maximum allowable catch limit of anchovy and white anchovy at 435,000 tons.
 
Only fishing vessels registered and authorized to carry out extractive activities during this season may carry out fishing tasks in accordance with the maximum catch limit per vessel, which will be published by the Vice Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
 
Likewise, there will be the participation of fishing vessels with a valid fishing permit for the extraction of anchovy and with a maximum percentage of catch per vessel.
 
It is prohibited to fish the resource with sizes smaller than those provided in the current regulations, allowing a maximum tolerance of 10% expressed in number of specimens. In addition, the bycatch tolerance percentage of other resources in anchovy fishing is 5% of the total catch landed per vessel, expressed in weight.
