It is cold, cold, cold in the US and Canada which is adding to nearby logistics problems and causing some worry about the winter wheat crops. Looking at price activity for the week: little or nothing happened to corn prices while soybeans and soymeal prices moved higher on concerns over the dry weather and the heat in Argentina and Brazil. However, forecasters are saying that Brazil should have the second largest soybean crop on record, just a little behind last year’s record harvest..........please click PDF to see more details

Yawn, yawn, yawn – well it was that kind of a week. Everyone off on holidays – trading volumes on the CBOT very low – prices for everything almost unchanged on the week. ​The weather in the US has been colder than usual with lots of snow for people who didn’t want it and in some southern regions: lots of rain. But, here we are in winter and the crops are all in the ground and the weather for now is much less of a concern than in the spring. At least with the rain and the snow we should see good ground moisture levels into the spring. So those folks stuck in a snow drift in Erie Pennsylvania need to think about how happy the farmers are for the snow..........please click PDF to see more details

This week was a big week for South American concerns for soybeans – at least in Argentina. According to reports at the end of the week, this week will be very critical for Argentina soybeans and corn with rain needed in much of the country.
