China is facing a severe shortage of pork meat because impact of African Swine Fever (ASF) not solved since Aug 2018.   People in southwestern China have the highest levels of pork consumption in the country.  Southern part cities are selling a limited quantity of pork at discounted pries to help consumers cope with soaring prices.

Retail pork prices began to surge in June 2019, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MOARA). That is up 57% from a year earlier.

China’s Ministry of Commerce said last week it would release frozen reserves to ensure supplies of pork and other meat “at the appropriate time,” and pledged to give incentives to encourage pork imports..

In view of poor situation, fishmeal consumption is heavily affected.  It is very unusual that fishmeal inventory at China main port in peak season hit historic high at 284,850 mt which is even about 30,000mt higher than July 2019.
