The fishing industry is ready for the start of its operations and thus contribute to the economic reactivation of the country, helping to generate the resources that the country requires to face the coronavirus, reported the president of the National Fisheries Society (SNP), Cayetana Aljovín .

He maintained that according to reports from the certifying company SGS Peru, 100% of the audited companies strictly complied with the sanitary security protocol approved by the Ministry of Production and by the Ministry of Health for the maintenance activities of plants and boats.

“In this maintenance period, employers and workers have committed ourselves to complying with preventive measures, in order to have a responsible and sustainable activity. The figures are eloquent, the contagion rate has been well below 1 per 1,000 workers, "he stressed.

The head of the SNP explained that the audited companies were Austral Group, CFG-Copeinca, Hayduk Corporación, Pesquera Cantabria, Pesquera Capricornio, Pesquera Caral, Pesquera Centinela, Pesquera Exalmar, Pesquera Diamante, Pesquera Pacífico Centro and TASA.

Operation protocol
As for the operation protocol for the activities of the next fishing season, the president of the industrial union noted that it has proceeded to adapt it to the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health last week, and welcomed its publication in the newspaper Official El Peruano.

The union leader said that during the fishing season that is about to start, the safety and health measures that have been working very well during maintenance will be further reinforced.

“For us, the most important thing is the health of our collaborators, suppliers and our communities. In this sense, as a union, we have agreed that it is an external auditor who oversees compliance with our protocols, as well as the power to suspend the operation of any associated company that is not complying with them, "he said.

They await authorization
Cayetana Aljovín noted that the fishing industry is awaiting Produce's resolution authorizing the start of the first anchovy fishing season.

"According to a report from the Peruvian Institute of Economy, biomass is quite healthy, so we hope to have a good season that will benefit the country, companies and especially hundreds of thousands of industrial fishermen," he concluded.
