The Ministry of Production authorized the start of the First Fishing Season 2024 of the anchovy and white anchovy resource for indirect human consumption.

 

In accordance with Ministerial Resolution No. 000118-2024-PRODUCE, it is established that this will occur in the maritime area between the northern end of the Peruvian maritime domain and 16°00′S, starting at 00:00 hours of the next April 16th.

 

Likewise, the resolution indicates that the conclusion date of the first anchovy fishing season is when “the authorized Maximum Total Allowable Catch Limit of the North – Center Zone (LMTCP North – Center) is reached, or failing that , when the Peruvian Sea Institute – IMARPE recommends it due to environmental or biological circumstances.”

 

Regarding the total maximum limit of the allowable catch of anchovy and white anchovy in the north-central zone of the country, for indirect human consumption, it is established that it is 2,475,000 tons.

 

Furthermore, the legal device specifies that only fishing vessels with a valid fishing permit for the anchovy resource destined for indirect human consumption, registered and authorized to develop extractive activities, can carry out fishing tasks within the framework of the resolution. during the current fishing season.

 

And in the event that the catches of the anchovy fleet reach the Total Maximum Allowable Catch Limit of the North Central Zone, established for the First Fishing Season 2024, “the extractive activities are ended; without prejudice to establishing the administrative and/or criminal responsibilities of the owners of those vessels that have made catches” above the permitted limit.

 

The Produce resolution also contemplates the conditions for the development of fishing activities, measures for the conservation of anchovy, associated and dependent species, as well as monitoring, control and surveillance actions.
