Chinese port meat prices continuing soar in Southern China.

China is facing a severe shortage of pork meat because impact of African Swine Fever (ASF) not solved since Aug 2018.   People in southwestern China have the highest levels of pork consumption in the country.  Southern part cities are selling a limited quantity of pork at discounted pries to help consumers cope with soaring prices.

 

Retail pork prices began to surge in June 2019, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MOARA). That is up 57% from a year earlier.

Chinese Authorities Scramble to Secure Pork Supply as African Swine Fever Ravages Nation

The Chinese regime recently hinted at the gravity of China’s pork shortage due to the impact of African swine fever on current stocks.

Since the first outbreak in Shenyang, the capital of northern China’s Liaoning Province on Aug. 1, 2018, the disease has spread to all Chinese provinces. The illness kills nearly every pig that contracts it, but is not known to have harmful effects on humans.

Pork prices have been sent soaring and herds devastated as African swine fever tears through China's massive pig-farming industry, forcing the country to ramp up imports to satisfy demand—but analysts warn worse is yet to come.
