China Customs says allows imports of DDGS from Bulgaria

China's customs said on Tuesday that it has allowed imports of Distillers' dried grains (DDGs) from Bulgaria.

The trade move, effective from Tuesday, comes as China seeks to diversify import origins of feed ingredients amid trade tensions with the United States.

The products exported to China must be free of harmful pests including Cernuella virgata Da Costa and Solenopsis invicta Buren, China's General Administration of Customs said in a statement on its website.

DDGs, an important feed ingredient, are a byproduct of ethanol production.

China won't hike grain import quotas for U.S. trade deal

China will not increase its annual low-tariff import quotas for corn, wheat and rice to accommodate stepped-up purchases of farm goods from the United States, senior agriculture official Han Jun said on Tuesday, according to local media group Caixin.

The move could make it harder for Beijing to meet import commitments in a Phase 1 trade deal due to be signed next week. U.S. President Donald Trump said last month the agreement would likely double China’s $24 billion in pre-trade war purchases to $40-$50 billion annually.

China has not confirmed the amount.

Grain Soybeans down slightly as market mulls weather, China cancels soy orders

Chicago soybean futures traded slightly weaker on Thursday, after hitting the lowest level in more than a week on export data showing China had canceled soybean purchases for the first time since April.

U.S. Agriculture Department data showed the world's top soybean importer canceled purchases of 9,853 metric tons of U.S. soy last week as the bilateral trade war remained unresolved.

Wheat slid for a fourth consecutive session as freshly harvested grain weighed on markets across the northern hemisphere.

China makes biggest U.S. sorghum purchase since April as trade talks resume

China made its biggest purchase of U.S. sorghum since April last week, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture data issued on Thursday, as Washington and Beijing revive discussions to end their trade war.

The world’s top sorghum importer bought 51,072 metric tons of the grain even though China imposed a 25% tariff on American shipments in July 2018 as part of the tit-for-tat trade dispute. The purchases will likely be used to feed livestock or make a fiery Chinese liquor called baijiu.
